On June 13, 2013, Eartha Watts-Hicks was recognized as a literary "game changer" by the NYCHA branch of the NAACP and presented with the Just R.E.A.D. Award in the fiction category. Eartha is a member of the acclaimed Harlem Writers Guild and an honors graduate of the State University of New York, College at Old Westbury. For many years, she assumed the role of stay-at-home mom. She is the former editor and director of publications for Cultivating Our Sisterhood International Association's COSIAnet. A freelance writer, she blogs for FutureExecutives.org, and her articles have appeared in several online publications, including TheUrbanBookSource.com, Harlem World Magazine, and Cultivating Our Sisterhood International Association's COSIAnet. Eartha is also a songwriter and music publisher registered with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). The completion of her first novel, Love Changes, a novel with a soon to be released companion music soundtrack, was the culmination of years of independent study, as well as continuing education coursework in creative writing, fiction, and poetry she received at Marymount Manhattan College, City College of New York, and the Frederick Douglass Creative Arts Center. She is a fellow of Medgar Evers College and the Center for Black Literature's North Country Institute and Retreat for Writers if Color. She is also a fellow of the Hurston/Wright Foundation, having completed, the intensive Advanced Novel workshop at Hurston/Wright Writers’ Week in 2007.
Eartha Watts Hicks has been named New York City Literacy Ambassador by NYCHA/NAACP and was featured in the Write It Down panel discussion at the 2014 Congressional Black Caucus.
